Dive Into Venture Capital

The Venture Capital Investment Competition (VCIC) offers Goizueta students the opportunity to step into the shoes of venture capital investors, evaluating real startups. In collaboration with the Emory Venture Capital Club and Goizueta Venture Capital, this program is open to any undergraduate or graduate student with an interest in angel and early stage investing, startup pitches, and investment analysis.

The Inaugural Competition

VCIC 2026 was the first time the competition ran on Goizueta's campus. CEI led crash course sessions ahead of the internal competition and fielded six teams: three BBA and three graduate. Two came out on top. Team Birch (Riley Schwimmer, Max Halsey, Jason Bright, Andy Judlowe, Sammy Lichtenstein) and Team Dogwood (Federico Morales Barrera, Khayla McCoy, Visha Patel, Monica John, Yolanda Morgan) both advanced to regionals in Florida and New York, where the BBA team placed third and the graduate team took second.

Program Overview

  • How It Works

    Most competitions put students in front of investors to pitch. VCIC flips it: here, you're the investor. Your team hears pitches from real early stage startups, runs due diligence with the founders, and decides which one is worth backing. Then you put a term sheet on the table and defend the call to a panel of working venture capitalists.

    What You'll Practice

    Reading a pitch and a market, diligence questioning, valuation and deal terms, and defending an investment thesis under pressure.

    From Campus to Finals

    It starts at Goizueta with prep sessions and an internal competition run by CEI. Winning teams advance to VCIC regionals, and from there to the Global Finals at UNC Kenan-Flagler in Chapel Hill each spring. VCIC is an international competition with 120+ university teams worldwide.
  •

    Good to Know

    Open to BBA and graduate students. No prior VC experience is required. Teams of 5-6. Groups must be all in the same type of degree track (graduate or undergraduate)
