Yafen Chen

Business Analyst, Global Lending Services

Biography

Before arriving at Emory, Yafen Chen 25MSBA earned a finance degree at CUHK–Shenzhen, where an early interest in analytics began to take shape. “I actually started blending finance with analytics coursework,” Yafen explains. Although she already had an offer lined up as a strategy analyst, the pull toward deeper analytical work proved stronger. “Emory stood out not just because of its strong alumni network, which I found really supportive, but also because of the experiential learning opportunities,” she explains. Opportunities like the Analytics Practicum, in which students work with a real client to solve a business challenge, ultimately helped solidify her decision to pursue advanced training in data and analytics.

Reflecting on the academic experience, Yafen notes that the program exceeded expectations. “Honestly, it’s been a bigger boost than I expected,” she shares. “Even though I'd done some machine learning and data courses before, Emory pushed me further. I learned to really tell stories with data, handle huge datasets, and work on industry-sized projects that were both challenging and incredibly rewarding.”

For Yafen, the professional impact of the degree has been equally significant. “As for tangible benefits, it’s absolutely opened doors,” Yafen says. “I've been able to transition into a more analytics-focused role in fintech, which is a data-rich environment.” Along the way, Yafen built a strong network of alumni and industry connections that continue to provide long-term value.

Some of Yafen’s most meaningful memories at Goizueta came from the community itself. “My favorite experiences at Goizueta came from the people,” she reflects. “Exploring food around Atlanta with classmates who quickly turned into close friends made the year feel personal and fun.” She also points to faculty mentorship as another meaningful layer of impact. Yafen credits Goizueta professors for being knowledgeable, supportive, and genuinely invested in students’ growth.

What ultimately sets Goizueta apart, Yafen says, is how connected the community feels. “The alumni network is genuinely close,” she notes. “People respond, offer advice, and help without making it transactional.”
