Biography
Sophia Du knows how to crunch the numbers. After getting her undergraduate degree in math from Sun Yat-sen University in China, she was ready for something more. “I spent a lot of time working with models, numbers and statistics,” Sophia says. “However, I think I needed to switch my gears to finance, and I definitely needed to know more than theoretical finance.” Sophia entered Goizueta’s Master of Finance program to fully immerse herself to learn more about what she loves to do before starting her career.
The masters in finance degree is designed to help students dive deep into the world of finance and learn platforms like Bloomberg, FactSet and Refinitiv, as well as work with analytical programs like Python, RStudio and Power BI.
Her decision to continue her education paid off quickly through the hands-on experiences and valuable skills she’s learned in the 10-month finance masters degree, including working with data to help dictate her actions on investments, as well as learning how to write buy-side and sell-side reports to create valuable pitches in front of clients.
However, beyond the numbers, data and reports, Sophia has learned a great deal about herself during her time in the MAF program. From making friends with other international students to using English as her first language to pitch her ideas in a classroom, Sophia has continued to push herself to fully invest to the Master of Finance experience.
“I didn't know that I can engage in society and the business world so deeply,” she says. “I really appreciate my experience here.”
