Master in Management

FAQ

General Questions

The Master in Management is designed for recent college graduates, particularly those from liberal arts and science backgrounds, who wish to build a solid foundation in business. No prior business coursework or experience is required. Over the course of 10 months, the Master in Management equips you to translate your curiosity, creativity, and analytical strengths into career readiness and meaningful impact.

The Master in Management differs from the MBA in that it is tailored for early-career students launching their professional journey, whereas the MBA is intended for individuals with several years of work experience seeking to accelerate or pivot their careers. If you would like guidance on whether the Master in Management aligns with your goals, we encourage you to connect with our admissions team.

No work experience is required for our full-time Master in Management program. The majority of students start their Master in Management degree the summer after undergraduate graduation. In fact, candidates with more than two years of professional work experience are not eligible to apply and are encouraged to consider our MBA programs. Candidates with more than two years of experience in non-professional business roles (for example, teaching, health care, fine arts, etc.) or candidates with military service may be eligible and are considered on a case-by-case basis.

A Master in Management equips you with a broad business foundation and versatile skill set that prepares you for a wide range of early-career roles. Graduates pursue opportunities in areas such as analytics, consulting, marketing, operations, project management, human resources, business development, and client or customer relationship management. These roles span industries including consulting, technology, healthcare, financial services, consumer goods, media and entertainment, and nonprofit organizations. The flexibility of the degree allows you to find a role that aligns with your passions, interests, and creative goals, helping you launch a career that feels both meaningful and well-matched to your strengths.

View Curriculum

No, the Master in Management program is not STEM-designated. Students still benefit from a well-rounded business foundation that supports a wide range of career paths across industries and are eligible for one year of OPT after receiving your graduate degree.

Our degree is a very intense, full-time program. We ask you that you start the program before considering part-time employment. Full-time employment during the full-time Master in Management program is not possible. Traveling during the academic year (during class sessions) is strongly discouraged. Students receive several holidays throughout their studies—fall break, Thanksgiving holidays, winter break, and spring break.

Emory offers graduate professional housing in venues on the edges of campus targeted to student's needs and desires. Emory provides shuttles to these units. We are simply looking for the best candidates. This means your candidacy will be evaluated on the whole person—your undergraduate grades, your letters of reference, your personal statement, your résumé (if you have work experience), and your leadership, extracurriculars, community involvement, etc. will all weigh equally in your application.

Some will have work experience, while others will be admitted having just completed their undergraduate coursework. All will be looking to launch a career or potentially use the program as a gap year prior to attending law, medical, dental, or veterinary school.

Upcoming Events

You will need to email us directly. Please forward a copy of your receipt with the date you submitted payment and the card holder's name. If you did not receive a receipt following online payment, please contact your credit card company and verify the charge. If the charge is not verified, please resubmit payment.

This is not an uncommon situation for international students. Most U.S. transcripts have a notation included that says, "degree conferred" or "degree issued." If your transcript does not state that your degree was issued, please include documentation that your degree was issued by your university. If you have completed the checklist in your application and yet still receive a message that your application is not complete, please email the Master in Management admissions team.

If you are re-applying within a year of your original application, we will keep your file open, and request that you send an updated resume, transcript (if applicable), and essay. If you are re-applying after a year, please resubmit a new application and all supporting documentation.

Recommendations

Yes. Your request to your recommenders can be sent prior to submitting your application. Once you log into your application, fill out the recommender section and then select "notify" for each recommender. Your recommender will be notified of your request via email. Please tell them to expect the email and to check their spam box if they do not see it within a day.

We prefer recommenders use the form generated from our online application system, but they may submit a letter that addresses our questions as long as they also include the evaluation grid, which can be downloaded from the hardcopy form. They may scan their letter which should include their business card and email it to us or to our mailing address:

Emory University
Goizueta Business School
Master in Management Admissions
1300 Clifton Rd
Atlanta, GA 30322

Depending on the filters they may have on their email systems they should look in their spam boxes. If the request is not there, you should contact us via email.

If you are a recent graduate, or in your senior year about to graduate, we strongly recommend that at least one of your recommenders be a professor who can speak to your academic abilities. Your other recommendation can be from another professor, a work or research supervisor, an academic advisor, or someone else who knows you well such as a mentor or coach.

Interviews

Interviews are not required for admission. We do offer optional interviews with members of the admissions team during the first two weeks following an application deadline. Interview spaces are limited and first come, first serve. Interviews are, for the most part, virtual on Zoom.

No, because the interviews are optional, they are not considered part of the application evaluation. However, there is an advantage to interviewing as it gives you a chance to learn more about the program and how it will specifically benefit you and meet your goals.

Generally, a member of the admissions committee conducts the interviews.

You should plan to spend 20 minutes on your interview.

Decisions

All applications are reviewed during the round in which the application is determined to be complete (submitted and all required materials received). Decisions are released online on the notification date corresponding to each round.

Candidates who are waitlisted in one round will be moved to the next round and the application will be reassessed. You may check your status online on the next decision notification date. If your waitlist status did not change, it means that you have remained on the waitlist and your file will be reassessed in the next round.
