Biography
Chicago-native Travon Lucius is in a constant pursuit to learn more. While working as an analyst at Wells Fargo, his love of knowledge helped Travon apply to Goizueta’s Master of Finance program. “I think what pursued me to push towards Emory University was really my manager and the constant pursuit of education,” Travon says. “I see Emory as the perfect opportunity to expand myself professionally and gain more knowledge.”
One of the main selling points of the program for Travon was the faculty. Prior to attending, Travon had met an Emory professor during his undergraduate years at a seminar. “I wanted to get the opportunity to not only learn from them but also get the opportunity to experience them as a professional,” he says.
With a strong appetite for knowledge, Travon has gained many vital skills during the short 10-month program, including how to place a trade, learn the life cycle of a stock and work hands-on with the student-run investment fund.
“With Emory, I feel that the learning experience is more intensive in the fact that you get more face time with the professors,” Travon says. “You get more hands-on experience where there’s the opportunity to be more intensive because the classes are smaller. It's just a better opportunity to learn and a better learning environment as well.”
Beyond the classroom, Travon has learned a great deal about himself as well. “I have learned how flexible I can be at Emory University,” he says. “I get exposed to a multitude of people from different nationalities in different countries. I think that's something that's very key to helping me grow, because you get to experience ways of life from different people. I think that was very, very helpful for me.”
