Biography

When Tanysha Young needed to pivot her career from working in healthcare to talent management, she knew she needed some help. While the Connecticut-native had experience in business operations through customer-facing work, data analysis, and employee engagement, most of her professional experience was online. “I wanted to pivot towards talent management, but because I didn't have much work experience, I couldn't pivot like I wanted to,” Tanysha says. “I decided to get my MBA to learn more about the HR landscape while also gaining the business acumen I need to be a future leader. All my professional experience was online, so I wanted to be able to use school as an opportunity to get myself back in that professional setting.”

Tanysha wanted to attend a school in a large city to build her network, making Atlanta and Goizueta even more appealing. To top it all off, she desired small class sizes to help her succeed academically. “The community is what helps me thrive while I'm here,” she says. “What I think about professors, of course we've gotten help, but we've also cried. We've also laughed. It's just something that makes me feel okay with not knowing and not being sure of what's going on in my classes. When I think about classmates, we all really know each other. We all can lean on each other and make jokes in the group chat. It's just such a good time and really an atmosphere that I want to continue to be in and build community.”

While Tanysha has developed the hard skills she needs to advance her career, she has also grown personally. “What surprised me most about my MBA experience was how much I learned about myself,” she says. “I expected to just come here, do my work, and graduate. But I think I realized, especially coming from a virtual environment to in-person, how much work needed to be done, whether that's remembering how to interact with people in person again or just learning how I interact in different situations.”
