Biography
Rohan Shah was looking for the perfect career fit. After receiving his undergraduate degree in India, Rohan originally focused on accounting and taxation while working as an audit intern at an accounting firm. After exploring more opportunities, he decided to work as a tax intern at another firm but soon became fascinated with equity research. He ultimately landed as an analyst at a portfolio fund, but Shah was still looking for more.
“The Master of Finance [program] was a good choice to basically pivot,” Rohan says. “I had a major understanding about accounting and taxation, but when I went into the workforce, it was not for me. I thought that I needed to get deeper into finance and understand different aspects of finance and not just equities. That's what brought me here for the Master of Finance program.”
The program stood out to Rohan for several reasons such as the industry knowledge of professors and the curriculum. “I like the curriculum because it was more focused on practical aspects along with theoretical aspects,” Rohan says. “The biggest selling point was the New York trip that we went on in October, which was another point that this [program] is not only theoretical, but you get a lot of practical insights as well.”
Rohan has learned imperative hard skills such as giving impromptu presentations and technical skills such as learning Python, coding and how to use statistics to make a portfolio. But Rohan has also learned a great deal about himself along his journey.
“I learned a lot of things about myself,” Rohan says. “In the beginning, before the curriculum started, I tried to take the initiative of gathering everyone because I had never met these people before coming to Emory. It just gave me the motivation to keep doing that – trying to engage with people and trying to meet up.”
