Biography
Johannes Fiedler has a strong passion for problem solving under tight constraints. To help fuel that passion and transform it into a long-term career, the Austria-native decided to enter Goizueta’s Master of Finance program to combine his interests in data science and finance with the goal of creating an analytical mindset.
“The Master of Finance was an incredible experience where I learned more about different asset classes of finance and their methods of analysis,” Johannes says. His experience within the program proved invaluable as he was not only able to focus on data and finance, but also work on team building, group work and other important skills. “I was exposed to coding, which was new for me, and learned various skills such as presentation, public speaking, risk management, portfolio management and investment research.” Johannes says. “The practicum classes were especially valuable, where we put our learned knowledge to work in group-project competitions mentored by professionals in the financial sector.”
Goizueta's masters in finance degree provides real-world opportunities for students by allowing them to work through tough problems with real clients. One project that stood out to Johannes during his time in the program was working on a 7-week long hedge fund strategy project with Invesco. “My team and I created an infrastructure expansion fund,” Johannes says. “Our team won the competition and created a great slide deck and fund fact sheet, which helped me during interviews with recruiters. It really helped me understand all the material covered in other classes and added a practical factor to them which made me retain them for life.”
Like many students, Johannes initially entered the program intimidated by his peers, concerned his level of knowledge would not be on par with others. However, after a short amount of time, Johannes soon felt at home surrounded by a supportive and welcoming community. “I made great friends and really enjoyed the class environment and technology we had access to,” Johannes said. “I realized the importance of time management and felt the rewards of hard work.”
