Biography

After pursuing a degree in liberal studies at North Carolina A&T, Camille Irvin immediately knew she wanted to get her master’s degree. “I didn't feel that I was ready to enter the workforce,” she says. “I didn't think I was prepared with the skills needed.” During her undergraduate experience, Camille felt she didn’t have the necessary one-on-one experience to build about crucial skills she needed for her career moving forward.

“As someone that came from a larger institution, I'm not someone that is used to teachers knowing me by name,” Camille says. “I can definitely say that all of the professors truly enjoy getting to know me as an individual outside of me as a student. It is something that I didn't know that I needed in not only my professional life, but my personal life.”

One of Camille’s biggest career goals is to obtain a real estate license and start her own company. “As a black individual, I think it's really important to build wealth within your own community, but outside of that, I've always just been someone that has been really big on volunteerism,” she says. “In any career that I do, I want to make sure that I'm able to give back to the people that lifted me up and then give back to the people that weren't able to lift me up because they need that support.”

While she has learned many skills from immersive projects, working directly with clients and networking with her community, she has also learned a great deal about herself along the way. “I think the most surprising thing I learned about myself throughout this program is the gift of gab,” she says. “Knowing how to sell yourself, command a room are all things that I would normally say I'm really good at as an extrovert, but throughout this program, I've been challenged in a way that has forced me to step further outside of my comfort zone, and I could not be more successful in any capacity if I had not been in this program to find that out.”
