Biography
After working as a business development intern at a fintech startup, Taiwan-native Bruce Kang soon learned he had a strong passion for finance. Beyond thriving in a fast-paced working environment, Bruce was able to learn new skills at his internship, as well as work with C-suite executives, analyze financial problems and provide real-world solutions. “I have a passion for solving complex financial problems and being able to analyze financial data to provide valuable insights,” Bruce says. “I wanted to dig deeper into the finance field, so that's why I decided to pursue a Master of Finance here in the U.S. at Emory.”
While Bruce was initially drawn to Emory because of the program’s curriculum design, he has thoroughly enjoyed working with the professors who have extensive work experience in the financial industry. “They are able to provide what we really need to know before facing a real job,” Bruce says. “I think this type of teaching method equips us with all the essential skills and knowledge to make us more prepared for a future job market.”
While students are tasked with various projects in the program, one stood out for Bruce. A merger and acquisition project enabled him to pitch ideas, conduct research, analyze financial statements, build models and allow him to enhance his strategic thinking process. “[Associate Professor Kevin Crowley] provided us with some guidance and suggestions on how we can make our project better and eventually, we solved our problem,” Bruce says. “I would say that this learning experience was really rewarding, and I really enjoyed it a lot.”
Many of these class projects require a great deal of group work, and Bruce has thoroughly enjoyed working with his diverse cohort. “We have classmates from all around the world,” Bruce says. “We have a lot of group work, so that means we have chances to work with different classmates and to learn something from others. It’s been a really fulfilling journey for me here at Emory.”
