Biography
Apoorva Shanker 25MF chose to pursue the Master of Finance at Goizueta to deepen her quantitative and strategic finance skill set while repositioning herself for a global investment career. Prior to enrolling, she brought experience across audit and finance, entrepreneurship, and investment research, but sought more rigorous training in valuation, capital markets, and portfolio strategy. “My goal was to seamlessly bridge theory with real-world application, gain exposure to global financial markets, and build a strong network that would support long-term career mobility and leadership in finance,” she explains.
Emory’s Master of Finance program delivered on that vision by significantly sharpening Apoorva’s analytical thinking, financial modeling, and investment judgment. “The program strengthened my confidence in high-stakes, data-driven decision making,” she notes, crediting the curriculum’s balance of technical rigor and applied learning. Beyond academics, Goizueta’s close-knit cohort and hands-on practicum experiences fostered a collaborative, intellectually curious environment. Apoorva also points to professors who consistently went beyond the classroom to mentor, challenge, and support students, as well as an alumni and peer network that proved invaluable in opening doors to mentorship and global opportunities.
Professionally, the impact of the program was transformative. “Earning the Master of Finance degree opened global doors for me, including the opportunity to join UBS in a global investment role in London,” Apoorva shares. The program expanded her international career mobility and provided access to top-tier opportunities, a strong salary trajectory, and a globally relevant skill set applicable across markets and asset classes. Equally important were the deep, lasting relationships she built across finance, consulting, and asset management—connections she expects will support and shape her career for decades to come.
Some of Apoorva’s most meaningful experiences at Goizueta extended beyond the classroom. Representing Emory at national university competitions helped her develop discipline, teamwork, and resilience, while her involvement with Goizueta’s Business & Society Institute enabled her to engage deeply with purpose-driven finance and real-world impact. She says, “These experiences, combined with the collaborative culture of Goizueta, made my time there both professionally enriching and personally meaningful.”
Reflecting on what sets Goizueta apart, Apoorva highlights its people-first approach. “What makes Goizueta truly special is its deeply collaborative, people-first culture paired with rigorous academic and professional preparation,” she says. The small class size fosters genuine, lifelong relationships and personalized mentorship from faculty who are deeply invested in student success—creating an environment where students don’t just learn finance, but grow as leaders.
