Leo is a PhD candidate in accounting expected to graduate in May 2022. His research focuses on how features of accounting disclosures, both formal and informal, influence users’ judgment and decision making. Leo’s research has been accepted for publication in The Accounting Review, and he has received the prestigious Deloitte Foundation Doctoral Fellowship Award. His dissertation investigates whether investors can see through managers’ evasive responses in Q&A sections of earnings conference calls and how these evasions influence investment judgments. Leo is a licensed CPA in Brazil, where he held positions in the federal government and judiciary system with responsibilities related to planning, budgeting, and auditing. He has also been on the faculty of the largest university in Brazil, the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, where he taught several courses in financial and managerial accounting. In his free time, Leo enjoys spending time with his wife and sons, as well as weightlifting, biking, and running.
