What was your initial reason for choosing to pursue the One-Year MBA, and why did you choose Goizueta? Further, now that you have completed your summer experience, how has the program met - or exceeded – your expectations? The One-Year MBA program was a perfect fit for my career and personal goals. I am looking to move from sales to marketing. The One-Year MBA option was attractive because I can gain the technical knowledge I need, build a valuable network, and quickly get back to business. / / I earned my BBA from the University of Michigan. The education was incredible, but I was looking for a more intimate experience for my MBA. At Goizueta, I have had an opportunity to build relationships with students across all of the MBA programs as well as the Program Office, CMC, and Admissions. / / The program has exceeded my expectations. The design of the program is impressive. The amount of extra-curricular activities like company visits, the Matrix, and social gatherings is more than I expected. If you were telling a prospective student about Goizueta's One Year MBA, how would you describe the benefits of the Summer Experience? What advice would you give incoming One Year students about the summer and ways to maximize those first months on campus? The summer experience is the best experience in your life that you will never want to do again. It is completely immersive. The summer is rigorous, but there is a huge sense of accomplishment in completing the summer. My 61 classmates felt more like a big family by the end of the summer and the experience we shared will bond us together for years to come. To me, the coolest benefit of the Summer Experience is that we had the entire school to ourselves. We had the full attention of the summer faculty and the CMC. Getting an MBA can have profound effects on your career prospects. Describe an aspect of Goizueta's program that has moved you closer to your career goals. Who (or what) most assisted you in obtaining these goals and how are you building upon the momentum you've experienced? I am pursuing a career in sports marketing. I have found great support and opportunities. In addition to taking a few sports focused courses (i.e. Predictive Sports Analytics and Sports Finance), Professors Smith, Tripathi, and Lewis are willing to do anything to help me succeed. This fall, I will be participating in the Emory Sports Analytics Conference. In addition, I have lined up an internship with The Aspire Group/Georgia Tech Athletics for the 2015/2016 football and basketball season. I will be working on creating a Business Intelligence Plan. Even though my goals are unique, Goizueta allows me the flexibility I need to succeed. Goizueta is well-known for the principled, talented leaders we produce, proving that leadership is indeed a skill that can be taught if approached correctly. Tell us about a specific experience you had during the program - whether in a leadership class, club or other activity, that grew you as a leader? What kind of feedback were you given about your performance and how did that impact your learning? Further, how do you envision this skill development assisting you in your personal and professional life going forward? The Fort Benning Experience, led by Associate Dean Keen, was a pivotal experience in my leadership development. As part of our Summer Experience, we spent a day tackling the Leadership Reaction Course with our Summer Project Teams. Over the course of 10 challenges, I had the opportunity to act as team leader on multiple occasions. My team never fully completed any of the physically demanding tasks, but I learned that it is possible to learn more from failure than from success. I also learned that I need to be more trusting of my teammates and set them up for success. The after action review tool that we used to evaluate our performance and find ways to improve our team will be a useful tool in my personal and professional life. Finally, is there anything else you would want to tell a prospective FTMBA student at Goizueta? Take full advantage of all of the great opportunities and people at Goizueta. I learn something new everyday, and I am amazed by the collective wealth of knowledge, talent, support, and compassion of the Goizueta community.
