Admission and Application Details

The Chief Medical Officer Program is ideal for:
●Physician leaders currently in management positions in healthcare organizations who are preparing for a CMO role and are seeking to strengthen their expertise in business strategy and medical leadership
● CMOs with five or fewer years in the role who are looking to expand their management knowledge to excel as leaders

Participants are expected to have:
● A medical degree from an accredited medical school
● Fluency in written and spoken English

The program curriculum focuses on three key areas of medical leadership to help you set strategic priorities and achieve lasting impact. Through core modules, you will gain proven strategies for critical thinking, managing priorities, and leading effectively at the C-suite level.

  • Core Modules

    This 18-week program is designed to build strategic, financial, and leadership skills to help you navigate health care complexity, drive change, and measure success. It equips you to align culture, manage talent, influence outcomes, and promote innovation, DEI, and wellness. Modules include: The Complexity of Healthcare & Leading through Complexity, Executing Your Healthcare Strategy, and Assessing & Communicating Organizational Success.
  • Electives

    This program offers an opportunity to select two six-week electives tailored to your goals. These electives enable you to drive meaningful change in health care by building expertise in decision making, strategic leadership, innovation, and communication. Electives include: Executive Decision Making for Healthcare Leaders, Strategic Leadership in Healthcare, Innovating Healthcare: A Strategic Approach, and Communication Strategies for Healthcare Leaders.
  • Capstone Project

    As part of the program, you will complete a capstone project by applying your learning to a real-world challenge. You will work individually or in groups to develop solutions, make strategic decisions, and deliver a business plan for immediate application.
  • Annual CMO Forum

    This optional one-and-a-half-day in-person forum at Goizueta Business School, Emory University, Atlanta, allows you to directly engage with the program faculty and senior health care leaders. Focused on innovation, emerging trends, and strategic priorities, this forum is an opportunity to expand your learning beyond the core modules.
