Biography
With a background in nonprofit arts management, Full-Time student Lara McGee knew she had a long journey ahead to make a drastic career change. However, with the help and unending support of the Goizueta community, she quickly found her journey to be easier than planned. After dancing professionally for a year post undergrad, she soon shifted her focus to arts and management. However, after a few years, she felt it was time for an even bigger career change. “Coming back to school, I really started getting involved with the Consulting Club, and I immediately learned a little bit more about the field and heard from guest speakers to make sure that it was a good fit for me,” Lara says. “The whole cohort and all the professors were really supportive, so I didn't find it that challenging to do the career pivot.”
While she learned an amplitude of information within the classroom, Lara found an extremely informative and supportive community within her cohort of classmates. “Everybody comes from a different background, and our core teams are very thoughtfully put together,” Lara says. “I think I've definitely made some lifetime friends here at Goizueta. We're all going through the same journey together, and people really offer their support.”
Lara’s community only continued to grow with one of her more memorable experiences being Keystone, a day of service where she helped plan an event that brought 140 students from across business programs to volunteer at 10 different service sites. “It was really exciting to see everybody giving back to the community,” she says. “A lot of people move to Atlanta from other areas, and they might not know where to volunteer. They might not have seen certain parts of the city, so I think it's a really good opportunity for people to reflect, give back and see a little bit more of Atlanta.”
After graduation, Lara will work as a human capital consultant at Deloitte, where she has already found an impressive network of Emory alums with art backgrounds. “Everybody is really ready to just support you in your journey and make sure that you find the right company that's the right fit for you,” she says.
