Biography
For Sumeet Jain, finance has never been just about the numbers—it’s about what those numbers enable. A long-time “numbers person” with more than 20 years of global finance experience, Sumeet has built a career at the intersection of strategy, operations, and leadership, currently serving as a Global Financial Planning & Analysis Leader for the Science and Technology organization at GE Healthcare as well as the Enterprise Research & Development Finance Leader.
Sumeet’s fascination with finance began early. “I’ve always loved numbers,” he shared, tracing that interest back to middle school and later to formal training in accounting and finance in India. After beginning his career there, he moved to the U.S. in 2008 and joined General Electric, where he has spent more than a decade across multiple businesses and industries—including energy, nuclear, telecom, outsourcing, and now healthcare.
In 2015, Sumeet earned his Evening MBA from Goizueta, intentionally focusing his coursework on finance, accounting, strategy, and operations. The degree sharpened his ability to move beyond reporting and into true business partnership—work he describes as central to the finance function. “I see finance as one pivotal function organization, which connects with every other function or every other segment in the organization,” he explained. “We work very closely with CEOs and CFOs to set the strategy of the company which meets their vision.”
Throughout his career, Sumeet has sought roles that put him side by side with operating leaders. He has reported into global sales leaders, product management executives, and R&D heads—experiences that shaped his philosophy that a strong partnership starts with understanding. “What are their goals and objectives, their priorities for the year, and then integrate your own finance goals and objectives with their goals and objectives.”
A defining strength of Sumeet’s leadership style is his ability to simplify complexity. When working with senior executives, he emphasizes clarity over volume. He emphasizes that executives don’t need every detail; they want to know the outcomes. His approach: present crisp insights, outline a few data-backed scenarios, and always come with a recommendation. “Had you been in their shoes,” he asks his teams, “which scenario would you have taken? Why? That will only help them make the decision faster.”
Today, at GE Healthcare, Sumeet plays a critical role in guiding investment decisions as the company pivots toward becoming a medical technology and AI-enabled healthcare leader. He oversees global R&D spend and works closely with leadership to ensure innovation investments align with long-term strategy—particularly as healthcare increasingly integrates cloud computing, AI, and advanced analytics to improve speed, accuracy, and patient outcomes.
Beyond his corporate leadership, Sumeet is deeply committed to giving back. During the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic, the birth of his son prompted a moment of reflection. He says he didn’t want to tell his son that at all he did during COVID was watch Netflix. That realization led him to co-found a nonprofit dedicated to helping professionals navigate job loss and career transitions through resume coaching, mock interviews, and mentoring. The organization has since supported hundreds of individuals and reinforced for Sumeet the importance of empathy, community, and purpose.
When asked what advice he would leave with students and alumni, Sumeet didn’t hesitate. First: find a mentor. “I missed having a mentor earlier in my career,” he admitted. “I started working with a mentor like 5, 6 years ago. It has really brought a huge sea change in my career.” Second: network early and often. “Networking should not start when you are looking for a job.”
Sumeet’s post-MBA journey reflects the enduring value of a Goizueta education: analytical rigor, strategic thinking, and the confidence to lead with clarity and through partnerships—no matter the industry or challenge.
