Biography
While working as a clinical research coordinator at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston, Steph Andrews felt she needed to continue to develop herself as a leader and move her career forward in healthcare. She ultimately entered Goizueta’s Full-Time program through the Forté MBALaunch program, a personal development initiative that helps MBA candidates apply to business school. “Prior to my MBA, I joined the Forté MBALaunch program and really wanted to work with other women in Boston to apply to business school and make sure that I was always engaged in mentoring and helping other women succeed in business,” Steph says.
While Steph continued to serve as a Forté Fellow at Goizueta, she also joined Goizueta’s Women in Business program, which offers personal development opportunities for graduate women. “The Women in Business program has been really helpful for me not only just bringing together all these different women but making sure that we have a common connection and making sure that we have time together,” she says.
Creating a strong community was important to Steph as she was trying to navigate business school while pursuing her career in healthcare. Classmates and faculty took the time to help Steph build her business skillset allowing her see new opportunities. “My experience at Goizueta really altered what I was thinking in terms of what I wanted to do going forward, mostly in terms of what I thought I was capable of doing,” Steph says. “I came from microbiology and biochemistry, so I really don't have any of the business background. Learning finance and operations has been really rewarding and definitely makes me feel like I can engage more in my future role.”
As she looks toward future career opportunities post-graduation, Steph believes anyone can come to business school as long as they are true to themselves throughout the MBA journey. “The advice that I would give to someone looking at getting an MBA would be to make sure that you are coming fully as yourself and bring all of the background and experience that you've had,” Steph says. “Really lean into everything that you have done and the success that you've had and bring that forward.”
