Biography
While working in the financial world, Full-Time student Sophie Maus began to feel pigeonholed in her career. Sophie knew she wanted a deeper understanding of business and to move into a more strategic role, so she started her MBA journey at Goizueta with the understanding she wanted to transition her career into consulting. “Coming to business school is an incredible way to pivot into something brand new,” Sophie says. “Consulting is almost like an extension of business school in a way because you're continuing to get exposure to industries and functions that are new.”
After attending a large undergraduate university, Sophie sought a smaller MBA program, something she didn’t know how much she’d truly appreciate. From seeing her classmates on campus to interacting with faculty to working with the Career Management Center, Sophie was amazed at the close community she was able to build. “That is a really warm feeling that I think I was excited about, but I didn't know quite how amazing it would be until I was here,” she says. “It's everyone behind the scenes who is bought in on you and your future, and it really is a warmth that I've never really felt before.”
Sophie was also drawn to The Roberto C. Goizueta Business & Society Institute, a program focused on transforming business to solve society’s challenges. “I think everybody's talking about environmental, social, and governance (ESG) and what that looks like in business so a lot of programs are starting to focus on that, but Goizueta has had an incredible social enterprise program for years,” Sophia says. “There are ways to get involved in the Atlanta community from a social enterprise perspective, so it's a really robust and impactful program.”
While Sophie will be starting on the generalist model at Boston Consulting Group after graduation, she is already finding interest in various areas at the company, including a social impact program. “I never could have gotten the job that I would be working in without coming to Goizueta and doing the program here,” Sophie says. “It's completely transformed my professional life.”
