Biography
Growing up just north of Atlanta, One-Year student Hunter Dye was very familiar with Emory and what the school had to offer. While working for an investment banking boutique in the city, one of his co-workers mentioned Goizueta’s One-Year MBA program, a unique opportunity that piqued his interest as he was looking to make a career change.
“I decided to come to Emory because I wanted to pivot into private equity,” Hunter says. “I had a great experience in investment banking but wanted to do something on the buy side. I also wanted to stay in the southeast, so it really made it a no brainer to come here.”
With the hope to improve his soft skills, as well as build personal and professional relationships, Hunter decided to join the Delta Air Lines Leadership Coaching Fellows program, an opportunity for students to practice leadership skills by providing team and individual performance feedback. “The program is a chance to take what you're learning in the classroom and apply it to a real-world setting where you're actually coaching a team,” he says.
Because of the leadership program, Hunter has already been able to build meaningful personal relationships. “In the program, one of the big principles is to ask questions and not give advice,” Hunter says. “In my personal relationships, instead of just immediately giving advice, being able to ask these probing questions and lead them to an answer that they had known is very challenging, but I think it's something that's very powerful.”
Throughout his time in the MBA program, Hunter has seen just how important it is to build those personal relationships. “I think my MBA experience has really helped me understand the personal aspect of business and how important that is, and it has been able to give me a lot of personal relationships that otherwise I didn't have,” he says. “The small network and community at Goizueta help you through your MBA by really having those relationships with people and constant touchpoints.”
