Alumni Board Corner Update July Board Update: New York Goizueta Group

The New York Goizueta Group (NYGG) has made tremendous strides in establishing regular programming while reconnecting with the extensive New York alumni base. The NYGG has grown from one (1) event in 2003 to hosting 10 events on an annual basis. The events continue to grow in size and quality. Functions range from cocktail parties to an educational breakfast series. With approximately 1700 alumni in the New York metropolitan area, it has the largest alumni base outside of Atlanta. During the past year the Group has continued to reach out to the alumni base to include a broader representation from class years and programs at each event.

The past two speakers at the breakfast series have been highly regarded Goizueta professors. Professor Jeffery Rosensweig discussed the global economy and J.B. Kurish outlined the current status of the US economy and where we are going from here. The growing success of the breakfast series is based on the quality of the professors leading the discussion and thanks to the active participation by many alumni.

In the past year the NYGG has hosted a series of cocktail receptions. To kick off the new year, the group met in September at Midtown’s newest venue, The Volstead, to welcome in the new alums. In February the group gathered at Vintage New York, a winery and bar located in downtown Manhattan, to taste an assortment of wines and cheeses produced exclusively in New York State. The NYGG is now concluding their calendar year with a Happy Hour mixer with New York area’s Emory Alumni Association.

Over the next year we’re looking forward to improving the quality of the events and continuing to increase alumni participation.

As always, we encourage your feedback for ways in which we can keep the program evolving.
