A Lifelong Friend
Jeremy Stoler got more than concepts out of the calculus class he took his first semester at Emory University. He gained a lifelong friend in Daniel DeSevo 97C. Living in the same freshman dorm, rushing the same fraternity and ironically, having grown up in New Jersey just 15 minutes away from each other, their friendship was instant. Jeremy and Daniel's friendship continued to grow after graduation until his battle with leukemia came to an end in 2000. Daniel was just 24.

About Daniel DeSevo
Daniel touched many lives. His friends and family describe the energetic young man from Red Bank, New Jersey as caring, compassionate, intelligent, kind, brave, athletic, self-sacrificing, and a leader by example. At Emory, Daniel was president of his fraternity, Alpha Epsilon Pi. He had already visited more than twenty countries, including one full semester spent studying in Spain. After completing his second year of law school at Georgetown, he had secured a future slot with a prominent New York law firm.

When DeSevo lost his battle with leukemia, Jeremy was determined to keep his friend’s spirit alive. In his memory, Daniel’s family, Jeremy, and Emory classmates created the endowed Daniel DeSevo Scholarship at Goizueta Business School. "Emory was what initially brought us together. I felt a scholarship was appropriate as Dan was such a great person whose life was cut so short and this would be a way to honor him and have his memory live on in perpetuity andenable his spirit to touch so many going forward."

Since the beginning, Jeremy has been the driving force behind the DeSevo Scholarship. In Daniel’s memory, he hopes that the scholarship will help other students have an equally positive experience at Emory as he did. "I would hope this award would enable them to make their time at Emory a little easier economically so they have time to take full advantage of the college experience and not have to either work a job or not be able to attend further anymore. I had truly made some of my best friends for life through Emory who have become an integral part of my family and I hope that the recipient would be so lucky as well."

DeSevo Scholarship Goals
Goizueta Business School awarded the first Daniel DeSevo Scholarship to Timothy Senior, BBA Class of 2010. Timothy was a leader in high school activities, and a varsity athelete in addition to being class Valedictorian. At Emory, he has been a member of the Emory Big Band and a leader in his fraternity and in the Inter Fraternity Council (IFC). Timothy is now in the BBA Program at Goizueta and plans to pursue the CPA accounting track and work in accounting post graduation. He then hopes to pursue an MBA or attend law school.
