Who is this program for?

This program is specifically designed for rising juniors and seniors in Emory College who would like to develop management knowledge relevant to their current areas of study or would like to expand their career prospects by familiarizing themselves with business fundamentals are eligible for the program. Freshman and sophomores, as well as students who attend other universities can also apply.

Do I need a background in business or coursework in business?

No.  This program assumes no prior business knowledge or coursework.

Can I take this program if I am a graduating senior?

Yes, we will allow students who have completed all of their graduation requirements by the end of Spring 2012 to participate in the program. 

When does the Summer Institute begin and end?

Classes begin Monday, June 4 and end Friday, June 22, 2012

What days/times do classes meet?

Class meets from 9:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. and from 1:30 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. each weekday.  There is also one special program in the evening each week.

Is financial aid available?

Financial aid is available for students attending Emory University. Awards will be made on a first-come, first-serve basis to students who qualify for financial aid during the academic year.  Students must have a 2011-12 Profile and FAFSA on file.  Students who are not currently attending Emory but qualify for courtesy scholarships may also apply.  

How many credit hours will I earn for a course?

The Summer Institute is 6 credit hours. 

Can I also take a First Session summer class?

No, because the sessions overlap, you may not take a Session I class in conjunction with a Summer Institute class.

Can I also take a Second Session summer class?

Yes. OPUS registration opens February 10, 2012.

How much does it cost?

$1,269 per credit hour. The Summer Institute courses are 6 credit hours. Tuition is $7614; all students are assessed $93 fees. On campus housing is additional.

What if I want to also get my BBA from Goizueta?

This program is an overview of business, and students who are pursuing their Bachelor of Business Administration at the Goizueta Business School will pursue much more in depth coursework as part of their degree requirements.  However, if a student participates in the Summer Institute, they are still eligible to apply to Goizueta at a later date.  Participation will not impact admission to the BBA Program.

Does it help with admission to the BBA Program?

No.  This program is designed to give students exposure to business, but is not considered a part of the pre-requisite coursework for the BBA Program.

Can I use the credits towards my Emory College or Oxford College degree?

Yes.  The six credit hours will count towards degree.

How do I transfer credit to my home school?

All students should confirm that their home school will accept transfer credits.  For more information about the process, click here.

Is housing available? How much does it cost?

Yes. Summer Institute housing is at the Clairmont Campus. The cost is $800. 

When are applications due?

Applications are due March 30, 2012.  After that date, applications will be taken on a space available basis.
