The Recruiting Cycle

In speaking with your sons and daughters, I’m sure you’ve experienced (or will soon experience) their   focus on interview preparation, either for full-time or internship opportunities. Many industries or business areas follow an annual recruitment cycle.  Below is a snapshot of a traditional recruitment cycle for common college/entry level recruitment programs.

Traditional Recruiting Cycle

Fall Semester Spring Semester
Accounting (Full-time and Internship) Marketing (Full-time and Internship)
Finance/Banking: Full-time Finance/Banking: Internship
Consulting: Full-time Consulting: Internship
Rotational Programs: Full-time Rotational programs: Internship

Please be aware not all employers follow a standard cycle, especially in today’s rapidly changing job climate.  Therefore it is vital for students to frequently check BBA Career Management Center (CMC) job/internship listing resources such as CMC-BBA FirstClass conferences, Eagle Ops and UCAN for new opportunities.

Please contact Andy Rabitoy (andy_rabitoy@bus.emory.edu) if you would like to get involved in this very popular BBA event.

During these interview seasons, students can expect sometimes up to 3 separate interview interactions with each company, depending on the industry.  In fact, it is common for areas such as Finance and Consulting to have” Superdays”- an all day  final interview event sometimes having up to 8 firm interviews in a single day.

The interview process is very time consuming and exhausting.  In order to be the candidate of choice, the CMC encourages students to treat their job/internship search process like a class.  Although the employment signs are encouraging, the job market remains extremely competitive.  Preparation, creating connections, and persistence are critical to completing a successful job/internship search.

  • Preparation: Industry research, a top notch resume and polished interviewing skills are essential, and the CMC is here to help create student action plans.  We encourage BBAs to take advantage of our interview resources, workshops, career preparation series, and employer panels throughout the year. Additionally, BBAs have a dedicated Business Librarian who stands ready to help them be the most knowledgeable candidate for any position.
  • Connect:  Networking is one of the most important skills students will develop while at Goizueta.  Alumni, parents, friends, and associations are great avenues in paving the foundation for a BBA’s professional network.  Our goal is to have every student connect with at least one alum before graduation.
  • Persistence:  Opportunities come to those who make them.  The CMC works with BBAs to maintain continuous connections with alums and networks.   The amount of time and dedication committed will directly impact a student’s successful search.  The CMC encourages students to visit us early and often during their time at Goizueta to help them remain focused on preparing and achieving their career goals.

The CMC welcomes any opportunities you may have for students to network and connect with industry professionals.  As parents, if you have internship and job opportunities within your company, we welcome the opportunity to promote your positions to our talented BBA students.  Contact Andy Rabitoy at andy_rabitoy@bus.emory.edu.
