Four Years at a Glance

You may apply to Emory College of Arts and Sciences on the main university campus in Atlanta, or to the two-year program of Oxford College on Emory's original campus, about 40 miles outside Atlanta. If you are interested in pursuing a business degree, you will apply to the BBA Program once you have achieved junior standing.

Summary of four years at a glance.

Freshman Year

In your first year, you will complete general education coursework organized to present an array of intellectual approaches and perspectives. Emory’s general education requirements serve to develop your competencies in the skills and methods of writing, quantitative methods, a second language, and physical education; to acquaint you with methodologies that characterize the humanities, the social sciences, and the natural sciences as the three broad divisions of learning in the arts and sciences; to deepen your perspectives on national, regional, and global history and culture, and to give you some exposure to an interactive seminar experience.

While attending Emory or Oxford College, you are encouraged to become involved in activities at the Goizueta Business School in your first semester.  All clubs at GBS are open to students in all class years. As a pre-BBA student, you also have a pre-BBA advisor at GBS available through regular drop-in hours and e-mail to answer any questions and to provide guidance on course selection. In addition, you should plan to attend one of the information sessions offered each semester regarding the BBA Program.

Sophomore Year

You will continue to complete general education coursework, pre-requisites, and electives of interest. Once you have completed the required pre-requisites and achieved junior standing based on academic credit hours earned, you may apply to the BBA Program. We accept applications in the semester prior to which you intend to enroll.

Some students achieve junior standing second semester of their sophomore year, and thus may apply to the program in the Fall of their sophomore year to begin in the Spring. You may also apply for admission in the Spring, to enter the program in the Fall of your junior year.

Junior Year

Once you enter the BBA Program, you will take core courses in Finance, Process and Systems Management, Marketing, Accounting, Organization & Management and Business Communications. You will begin taking elective coursework in a specific area of interest, and may also take electives within the College.

You will attend junior seminars consisting of a series of speakers and symposia that focus on building leadership, communications, career development, business computing, and academic skills. In the first semester, you should meet with a career advisor to review your resume and discover resources, and in the second semester you will apply for summer internships and participate in on-campus interviews.

Senior Year

You will pursue additional electives in your areas of interest, a core course in law and business, and senior seminars that are designed to give you professional and industry-specific knowledge that falls outside the scope of traditional BBA courses. You will have the opportunity to connect with alumni, attend employer information sessions, and participate in on-campus interviews, and should also be actively applying for jobs.
