Our faculty begin reviewing applications immediately following the application deadline date. We do not have a rolling admissions process. We strive to notify candidates of our admission decision quickly via email and by mail by mid- April.

Personal interviews are conducted with all final candidates for admission. These interviews are held on our campus in late February or early March.
Your Acceptance/Decline Decision
If you are admitted to our program, we will appreciate your prompt response to our offer. However, the Laney Graduate School is a member of the Council of Graduate Schools and we abide by the resolution that states, students are under no obligation to respond to offers of financial support prior to April 15; earlier deadlines for acceptance of such offers violate the intent of the resolution.

We require a bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college. A master's degree is not necessary.
High GMAT Test Score
Although there is no minimum score requirement, a good performance is weighted heavily by the Admissions Committee. Successful applicants tend to have overall scores in the 90th percentile or higher; the average GMAT score of recent admits has been approximately 730.

Successful TOEFL Test Score
Beginning in 2011, our program now requires TOEFL scores for all international applicants regardless of their academic experience or the age of their TOEFL score.
The TOEFL tests your level of English as a Foreign Language. To be accepted, applicants must have a minimum TOEFL score as listed below:

Letters of Recommendation
We give considerable weight to letters of recommendation from faculty members that highlight a candidate's research potential, past academic achievements, and a commitment to scholarly endeavor.
As the application process can take some time, we encourage you to apply as early as possible. Personal interviews will be conducted with selected candidates as part of the admission process.

GMAT (Graduate Management Admissions Test) score not more than five years old at time of application. Our GMAT code is: C3Q-71-15.

How can I get an application?
Applicants are to use our online application. Our online application goes live Sept. 20, 2013. The use of the online application allows us immediate access to your application. In addition the use of the online application will allow you to track the status of credentials that have been received in the graduate school. What are the score report codes for GMAT and GRE?
The Ph.D. Program code for GMAT is: C3Q-71-15 Our institutional code for ETS is 5187. You may use any of the "Business" department codes.
How can I pay the application fee?
Application fees ($75) can be paid by credit card or e-check for online applications only. Applications submitted on paper must be accompanied by a check or money order.
I cannot afford the application fee of $75. Can you waive it for me?
We do not waive the application fee.
Can I waive the TOEFL requirement?
International candidates must have strong English language communication skills, both written and spoken. Therefore, if your native language is not English, you must submit a TOEFL score.

Can I apply to more than one area of concentration?
Each area of our Ph.D. program is unique and individualized. Therefore, when applying, you must select one area that matches your research interests.

How do I complete Part 4 of the application (financial certificate)?
The financial certificate (Part 4) - please complete it with any personal funds you have and indicate on the form that if admitted you expect funding from the Emory University. The information is required by the University for statistical purposes only and is not a factor in determining financial awards.
Can I apply for the Ph.D. program without a master's degree?
A master's degree is not necessary.
I have worked for several years. Will this affect my application?
If your work is in your chosen area of study, it will be considered along with your other qualifications. In certain doctoral specializations, relevant work experience is considered desirable.
Are there prerequisites for application to the Ph.D. program?
All doctoral applicants must have a bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college.
What factors are given the most weight by the Admissions Committee?
Strong candidates will be smart and motivated individuals with the appropriate intellectual qualities for a life of scholarship. We give considerable weight to letters of recommendation from faculty members that highlight a candidate's research potential, past academic achievements, and a commitment to scholarly endeavor.
Is there a minimum GPA required for admission?
No, the GPA is only one of a number of factors that the committee takes under consideration.
Should I take the GMAT or the GRE?
Our faculty strongly prefers the GMAT exam. The Graduate Record Exam (GRE) is also accepted.
Are there minimum GRE and GMAT scores?

Do international students have to take an English proficiency test?
Yes, international students are required take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) exam.
Financing Doctoral Studies
What sources of funds are available?
Tuition scholarships and stipends will be awarded to most students admitted to the program; domestic students are also eligible to apply for university fellowships and scholarships for specialized purposes. Annual stipends will be provided for the first four years of study, provided a student is making satisfactory progress. Beginning in the second year, the student will be required to provide 10 hours per week of research or teaching assistance to assigned faculty. How long does it take to get the doctoral degree?
Students should be able to complete the program in four years on a full-time basis. It is possible that some students may need an additional year for completion.
Can I attend part-time so I may continue working?
The doctoral program is demanding and rigorous, and students are required to apply themselves on a full-time basis.
Can I be admitted for spring semester?
New students are accepted into the program only for fall semester.
If I have graduate credits from another doctoral program, can these be transferred to Emory University?
Most doctoral programs in business are very dependent on individual faculty interests and competencies. Building an intellectual base at Emory is important for imprinting the unique qualities of the Emory doctoral experience. For this reason, transfer credits are rarely granted.
Can I work on my MBA and my Ph.D. simultaneously?
No, because these two degree programs are philosophically very different from one another. However, doctoral students without an MBA will be asked to take certain core MBA courses as a way of acquiring knowledge about various business functional areas.
