Why should I choose Goizueta Business School's Evening MBA program?

Will my experience in the Evening MBA program differ from the experience of Full-Time MBA students?

Only in schedule. The Evening MBA experience provides students with a network of business colleagues, real-time application of knowledge learned in the classroom, and strong leadership development to advance their career to the next level-without career interruption. Goizueta Business School faculty members teach courses in Evening, Full-Time and Executive MBA programs. The delivery format is adjusted for each program to meet the needs of its students. What career services are offered to Evening MBA students?

Goizueta's Career Management Center for Working Professionals partners with Evening MBA students to build lifelong foundational skills for establishing and managing career objectives. To learn more about these services, visit our Career Management section. 

My undergraduate degree is not in business, will my application still be considered competitive?

Goizueta welcomes applicants with undergraduate degrees from all majors. We look for students with diverse educational backgrounds and work experience.

Will I be able to study abroad during the MBA Program?

Evening MBA students fulfill their International Study module by participating in one of several one-week study abroad options. Past destinations include Argentina, China, The Netherlands, Nicaragua, The UAE, and Brazil.  

How important is work experience in the application process?

The quality of an applicant's work experience is an important factor in the application review process. 100% of our students have full-time work experience following their undergraduate degree. Most students have at least 2 years of work experience; the average is 6-7 years.

When and where do classes meet?

The typical schedule includes two class meetings per week from 6:30-9:15pm. Classes are held Monday through Thursday during fall, spring and summer semesters. Core courses are scheduled on Monday and Wednesday evenings. For additional information please view the Program Structure. All class meetings are held at the Goizueta Business School on Emory University’s beautiful main campus.

What is the curriculum customizability?

In addition to regularly scheduled core and elective courses, students can elect to participate in opportunities to accelerate their program. These include: Washington Campus, Directed Study elective, and our Accelerated Course Electives (ACE).

Does the Evening MBA program accept transfer credit?

A limited number of credit hours may be transferred to Emory's Evening MBA program. Students may transfer a maximum of 12 elective credit hours (i.e. up to four 3-credit-hour elective courses). These courses must have been completed within 5 years prior to enrollment at Goizueta as part of a graduate degree-seeking program from an AACSB accredited university or college. Credit hours earned as part of a completed graduate degree are not eligible for use as transfer credits.

Transfer credit is not part of the admissions process and requests for consideration of transfer credit will be reviewed by the Associate Dean of the Evening MBA program and the Evening MBA Program Faculty Committee after a student has been admitted and enrolled in the program. Final decisions on transfer credit are made exclusively by the Evening MBA Program Faculty Committee subject to the recommendation of the Associate Dean of the Evening MBA Program.

Do I have the option to waive out of any core classes?

Waiver exams are available for most core courses. If waived, the core course will be replaced with an elective course.

When does the Evening MBA program enroll? When should I apply?

The Evening MBA program enrolls once-per-year in August. All Application Round Deadlines are for fall enrollment.

Are there any prerequisite courses?

There are no prerequisite courses to apply to the Evening MBA program. If admitted, you will be notified of any required pre-enrollment foundation courses which are provided through Goizueta. Our goal is to ensure that all students are prepared to be successful in their courses.

Am I required to submit the TOEFL or PTE?

For applicants whose native language is not English, we require the TOEFL exam or the Pearson Test of English (PTE). A TOEFL or PTE waiver will be granted when a candidate has:

  • Spent at least 3 years in the U.S. studying toward completion of an undergraduate degree, OR
  • Completed a graduate degree followed by at least 2 years of work in the U.S.,OR
  • Received an undergraduate degree from an institution in which English is the language of instruction AND works in a country where the commerce is generally conducted in English. (Examples of such countries include: Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia, Singapore, India, Ghana, Nigeria and Uganda.) 

Do I have to wait until my application is complete to submit it to your office?

No. You may have various components of the application sent directly to the Admissions office and we will store those items until you have submitted the complete application.

May I submit my application before the round deadline?

Yes, you may submit your application whenever you are ready. It will be reviewed in the first round following the date you submit.

What does a "completed" application mean?

A completed application means that we have received a completed application form, official GMAT or/and GRE score, TOEFL test score (if applicable), your essays, all transcripts, your recommendations, and that you have completed your interview. Evening MBA interviews are required and not based on invitation.

Can I submit a scan of my transcripts?

Yes, we will accept scanned unofficial transcripts for evaluative purposes. Please upload all transcripts to the application with your essays and résumé. If you are admitted to the program you will be required to submit official transcripts with your enrollment deposit.

I took classes at various schools and transferred credits to the school where I received my degree. Do I need to submit a transcript for every institution attended?

Yes, regardless of whether your credits from other institutions were accepted by the institution where you received your degree we must have a transcript from each post secondary institution attended. This includes any study abroad programs attended.

What happens after I submit my application?

Notification with detailed instructions for checking the status of your application will be sent with confirmation that your application was received one business day following submission of your application. You will be instructed to login 48 hours after you submitted your application to get your Emory Network ID and password. Note: It will take at least 48 hours for your application status to be updated in OPUS.

Is financial corporate sponsorship required for admission?

No. Financial corporate sponsorship is not a factor in the admissions process.

Are interviews required for the Evening MBA program?

Yes. Evening MBA application files are not considered complete until the candidate has completed an in-person interview. Evening MBA interviews are not based on invitation. To schedule your interview, visit our Interview section.

When should I schedule my interview? Can I interview before I submit my application?

Interviews may be scheduled at any point in your application process. It may be helpful to interview early on as it is also an opportunity for you to ask questions about the program and application. The interview is a required part of the application and not based on an invitation. You should plan well in advance of the round deadline in order to ensure that you can schedule your interview.

Can my recommenders submit a recommendation before I submit my application?

Yes. Your request to your recommenders can be sent prior to submitting your application. Once you log into your application, fill out the recommender section and then select “notify” for each recommender. Your recommender will be notified of your request via email. Please advise them to be looking for the email and to check their spam box if they do not see it within a day.

Do my recommenders have to fill out your recommendation form or can they submit a letter?

We prefer recommenders use our form, but they may submit a letter that addresses our questions as long as they also include the evaluation grid, which can be downloaded to hardcopy form. They must attach a business card to the letter and send it to us at our mailing address: Goizueta Business School, 1300 Clifton Rd, Atlanta, GA 30322.

My recommenders did not receive the request for recommendation, what should I do?

First, depending on the filters they may have on their email systems they should look in their spam boxes. If it is not there you will need to resend a request for recommendation. To do so, log into your application, navigate to the recommender section and select “notify”. If they do not receive the request, please contact: MBAapplication@emory.edu.

Test Scores

I submitted my application but plan to retake the GMAT, what should I do?

Please send an email to MBAapplication@emory.edu and request that we hold review of your application until we have your new scores. Your application will be considered incomplete until we have your final test score. Once we receive your score your application will be reviewed in the next round.

Does the Admissions Committee have a preference for the GMAT over the GRE?

No, both the GMAT and GRE are accepted. While a GRE average score is not available, scores comparable to the posted GMAT average are expected. A score conversion tool is available on the ETS website. The GRE code for Goizueta Business School is 3984.

Is there a minimum GMAT score required for admission to the program?

The GMAT score is only one of the components we consider when making an admission decision. There is no minimum or cutoff score.

Should I retake the GMAT if my score falls below the average?

If you feel your score does not accurately reflect your capabilities then you should consider retaking the GMAT. We do not average scores, we consider only the highest total score. Multiple test takings do not negatively impact how an application is reviewed.

After the Application

How and when will I receive my admission decision?

Specific decision notification dates are posted for each Application Round. Decisions will be emailed to the applicant and posted through our online application system.

What if my Enrollment Deposit is due before I have received decisions from other schools?

You are welcome to email us a deposit deadline extension request with reasons and desired dates and we will do our best to accommodate your request. We understand that you may be considering other programs and that notifications may come at different times.
