International Colloquium

As part of the Evening MBA program, you will cap-off your experience with a six- to eight-day trip abroad. There is no substitute for real-time international exposure. Each class votes on a destination with input from the Evening MBA Program Office.

South Africa — 2006
The city life of Johannesburg and the beaches of Cape Town were the highlights of the Class of 2006 colloquium. Students met with executives at global companies, such as PriceWaterhouseCoopers, Anglo American Corporation and IBM, to learn about business in South Africa post-apartheid. They also visited interesting sites such as Nelson Mandela’s home and an orphanage in Soweto Township.

China — 2007
Shanghai and Beijing provided the backdrop for an immersion in China’s vibrant business community. Visits to the Great Wall and other landmarks allowed students to experience the explosive growth of the Chinese economy. Students toured a Newell Rubbermaid plant, met with executives from The Coca-Cola Company and CNN Beijing and examined the challenges and opportunities of doing business in a newly market-driven Communist country.

Dubai — 2008
Dubai has served as a Middle Eastern hub for IT and financial services and has been highlighted for its tourism and real estate businesses. Students visited one of the world's most innovative real estate development companies and spoke with financial experts at CNBC. The trip allowed students to experience Dubai's unique culture and learn how an oil-rich country has planned for the future when its reserves will no longer support the economy.

Brazil — 2009
Brazil, the world’s fourth largest economy, has enjoyed explosive growth in GDP and in its middle class population. The trip examined Brazilian companies doing business in telecommunications, online marketing, mining and the implementation of “green practices” which benefit the environment as well as the businesses. The trip included stops in Sao Paulo, the business capital of Brazil, as well as Rio de Janeiro, the tourism capital and home of many U.S.-based multinational companies.
