Speaker Bio(s):

Rick Rieder
Rick M. Rieder is President and Chief Executive Officer of R3, a multi-strategy global hedge fund with offices in New York, London and Singapore. Prior to R3, Mr. Rieder was the head of Lehman Brother’s GPS business, a global proprietary investment platform for LB. He was named to this position in March 2006. Mr. Rieder was also a member of LB’s Management Committee and was on the Board of Trustees for LB’s Corporate Pension Fund. In addition, he serves as Vice Chairman of the Borrowing Committee for the U.S. Treasury and served as a Delegate to the Council on Foreign Relations.

For the prior seven years, Mr. Rieder was global head of LB’s Credit Businesses, including corporate bonds, preferred stock, money markets, structure credit, CDO’s, emerging markets and the investment-grade loan business. This business was ranked #1 for quality of business for multiple straight years by Greenwich Advisors. Prior to this, he was head of the corporate bond desk and a cross-over trader, two roles he held since 1994. He started at LB in 1988, as a trader of Yankee and Canadian bonds, before moving over to trade industrial bonds in 1993. Mr. Rieder is the former chairman of LB’s Capital Commitment Committee for new issues and loans within high-grade credit and was Co-Chairman of the Board of LB’s Commercial Bank. Mr. Rieder was also a member of the Fixed Income Division’s Operating Committee and the Bond Market Association’s Executive Committee.

Mr. Rieder created and presented the Tuesday Morning Call to investors for 7 years. Participation in this call grew from 5 to as many as 2,500 institutional investors over that time period and resulted in Mr. Rieder winning the Institutional Investor #1 Ranking for Credit Strategists, despite not being a credit strategist. He also received votes for Best Fixed Income Strategist and Economist over the same period. Additionally, due to his knowledge of multiple parts of the credit market, he recently ran the MLEC/SIV Meeting in NY per the request of the Undersecretaries of the US Treasury. At this meeting, banks, SIV’s, money market funds and investment banks were asked to come together to form a solution for the most challenging issue facing the financial system at the time, the SIV asset unwind. Mr. Rieder has been chosen by the Federal Reserve Board of Governors to give a comprehensive review of the challenges in the credit markets twice over the past 8 months.

Prior to joining LB, Mr. Rieder worked as a financial analyst for Chase Manhattan and for SunTrust Banks in Atlanta. Mr. Rieder holds an M.B.A. from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. He also graduated from Emory University with a B.B.A. in Business while achieving Beta Gamma Sigma status and winning the Wall Street Journal Outstanding Student in Finance Award and the Professors Award for Outstanding Finance Student upon graduation. In addition, in 2005, he received the annual School’s Distinguished Alumni Award.

Mr. Rieder serves on the board of the Emory University Business School and was recently named to the Board of the Trustees of Emory University. He is currently Chairman of the Board of the North Star Academy Charter Public School in Newark, NJ, and on the Board of the Center for Celiac Research at the University of Maryland. He was recently named to the National Leadership Council for the Communities in Schools Foundation.
