Executive Women of Goizueta President Sets High Goals for New Term

Laura Balser, the 2009 President for the Executive Women of Goizueta (EWG) Business School at Emory University, is setting very high goals for her term, focusing on three major areas for the year.

First, expand the network for the EWG by holding events in conjunction with other organizations who share similar missions.  Last spring, the first co-hosted event was held with the Board of Directors Network where Tom Meredith, former CFO of Dell and Motorola, was the speaker.  "The opportunity to co-host an event expanded our ability to bring in a highly placed executive as well as widen our network," said Balser.  "We really enjoyed having a larger crowd from which excellent questions were posed to Tom Meredith."

A second of Balser's goals is to engage new members more quickly.  EWG founder Sarah O'Brien, a 2003 W. Cliff Oxford Executive MBA Program graduate, has graciously agreed to host an event for graduating Goizueta students to welcome them to EWG.  Balser notes, "Recent graduates provide an energetic boost to the organization.  They are some of this year's most active volunteers."

Finally, the fall conference plays a key role in the goals of the year.  "The 2009 topic - Managing Change, Managing Challenge - clearly resonates with what is on the minds of executive level businesswomen in today's turbulent economic environment," states Balser.  "The reaction to the conference has been electric.  We are very excited about having the community support and attend the conference."

An active Goizueta alumnae (BBA in Finance, MBA in Organization and Management), Laura was the first Mentor Chair for the EWG, then Programming Chair of EWG, and is a member of the Advisory Board of the Goizueta Women in Business (GWIB).  Balser is Senior Vice President and Principal Managing Director of Balser Companies, an executive benefits consulting firm with a client list that includes 25 of the Fortune 100.
