Absorbing layoff Shock: When advising staff of layoffs or voluntary buyouts, give them time to assimilate the news. Consultant Brandon Smith urges you to be frank when calling in employees to tell them of the reorganization, but then allow them time to process the information before inviting them back to your office to discuss how to move on.
