Human Capital Consulting (sometimes referred to as human resources or “HR” consulting) generally explores the people of an organization -- viewing workers as a key asset of the firm. Human Capital Consultants help improve an organization through more effective engagement of employees as they examine the holistic value and cost of employees to an organization rather than looking at issues that relate to a company's strategy as a whole. The field is expanding, but is not as commonly recruited as many other consulting areas. This means students interested in this field must clearly differentiate themselves.
Though the job differs in each firm, Human Capital Consultants tend to use data to determine how a company can maximize its effectiveness through the appropriate use, investment and cultivation of its people. Services may include: executive compensation consulting, retirement consulting, health and welfare consulting, M&A consulting regarding labor integration and broad-based employee compensation and rewards consulting.
