Joanna Weiss, 04BBA

Assistant VP Marketing, WL Ross & Co.

An Energetic Alum
When you meet Joanna Weiss, ask her how she came to work for WL Ross & Co. LLC. Because of a tight job market, she took a non-traditional route at first, but her persistence and her talents led her to her current position as Assistant Vice President of Marketing, where she is responsible for investor relations and client servicing. Finance was her focus at Goizueta, but she found her calling in sales and marketing. Despite the hectic work schedule she inherited when her immediate supervisor left the firm and the steep learning curve that followed, her dedication to Goizueta never wavered. She knows that her commitment really does make a difference. She also gives back financially to Goizueta and has become a leader in the alumni community.

"The Emory community is really strong. I got involved specifically in Goizueta events because I enjoy a smaller, more intimate group. I think it is so important to stay in touch with fellow alums, forming a network that provides support and encouragement and a wealth of knowledge. Involvement can take many forms. You can come to alumni networking events or Goizueta sponsored forums, and you can get involved by giving back financially. As a young alum, I cannot give back as much as many of the more senior-level alumni, but giving what you can is what matters."

Doing What You Can
Joanna's outstanding contributions to Goizueta Business School recently earned her the 2009 Young Alumni Award. She helps coordinate many of the Goizueta Group events in New York and is a member of the Goizueta Alumni Board. She will likely serve as the Board “champion,” along with another board member, to the Goizueta Center for Alternative Investments, putting her strong connections in private equity to work for Goizueta.

As a member of the Goizueta Alumni Board, Joanna contributes to the Alumni Board Scholarship. This scholarship will be awarded to one student in the BBA, Evening MBA, Full-time MBA, and Executive MBA Program annually. The Board anticipates having 100% participation from board members as they lead by example for the entire alumni community.

"It is so important to just participate and give what you can. As a BBA student, we had a class gift campaign for everyone to give "$20.04 for our graduation year of 2004. The amount was not significant, but the level of participation was! And, it set the stage for future giving in years to come. There are so many ways to give back and to stay involved through activities designed to bring alumni together."

We hope that you will also consider getting involved at Goizueta. Whether giving back of your time or giving back financially, all contributions are truly valued. Click here for more information.
