Will Porteous, 06BBA

Management Consultant, AT Kearney

Giving Back for the Greater Good

Our young alumni are important champions of Goizueta and represent our future as a top Business School. They help us realize our mission and the charge given to us by Roberto C. Goizueta, of educating students not just for business as it is today, but as it will be. Will Porteous 06BBA a young alum is on the rise professionally thanks in large part, he says, to the outstanding experience he had at Goizueta and at Emory. He volunteers his time and contributes to the Business Fund for Excellence as a way of ensuring that the quality of the experience he had continues for future Goizueta graduates.

The Power of a Strong Alumni Network

Will says that his pre-BBA courses "sealed the deal" and reaffirmed his desire to pursue a business degree. The challenging business school curriculum coupled with the opportunity to explore other classes in linguistics, Spanish culture, and architecture gave him the breadth of education that he wanted. Joining AT Kearney as a management consultant following graduation, Will is once again appreciating the variety of his experience.“Consulting has afforded me the opportunity to try different things and work with influential people all over the country and the world.” Will’s role with AT Kearney has already taken him to DC, Toronto, Saudi Arabia and Dubai. He has advanced to a professional level of a post-MBA student and looks forward to pursuing his MBA degree in the near future.

While balancing rigorous academics, Will found time to be involved in many campus and business school activities. Despite his busy work and travel schedule with AT Kearney, Will has taken his involvement at Goizueta to a new level. Will is more committed than ever to seeing the hard work and relationships developed during his student years at Goizueta continue to flourish. "The professional, social and networking power of a strong alumni network is so important. How a school maintains its alumni network is really what can differentiate one school from another."

Will was involved with the Undergraduate Business School Leadership Conference (UBSLC) as a student. As an alum, Will was tapped to help form the first consulting case study competition for the event, which draws some of the best undergraduate business students from across the country. Will is also taking the lead on a new initiative, the Emory Alumni Consulting Group, helping to prepare students to have successful interviews and thriving careers in consulting. As a strong advocate for Goizueta at AT Kearney, Will has been the recruiting contact representative for Emory University. As co-chair of the Young Alumni Board in Atlanta, Will helps coordinate philanthropic activities, social events, and professional events for local alumni. While he has been generous with his time, Will also contributes financially to the annual fund, the Goizueta Business Fund for Excellence.

A Little Goes a Long Way

"Giving back to Goizueta, whether it be serving on a board, donating, or even just attending events….a little effort goes a long way in making significant change." Will hopes that alumni will consider the greater good and the importance of giving back to help in part ensure the future success of the school. The many opportunities to give back is something Will enjoys and commits to – despite his busy schedule and he encourages other alumni to do the same.
