
Maryam Alavi is Vice Dean for Faculty and Research, and the John M. and Lucy Cook Professor of Information Strategy. Prior to her current appointment, she has held a number of senior leadership positions within the School including serving as interim dean. As Vice Dean for Faculty and Research, Alavi has oversight for all faculty hiring and governance, and all research activities including the PhD program.
Before joining Emory in 2000, she served as the Orkand Professor of Information Systems and Chairperson of the Information Systems area at the University of Maryland at College Park. Over the years, Alavi has been instrumental in spear-heading the creation and launch of a number of important initiatives for the School including our online knowledge dissemination partnership with Wharton, and our leadership initiative. She is a well respected scholar whose expertise is in the areas of strategic information systems management, technology mediated learning and knowledge management. The problems she works on are typically at the forefront of information strategy research.
